Description
Main Responsibilities
GENERAL:
Provide technical support for all Child Protection activities, including identification, collection of data/documentation, and provision of psychosocial support through psychological first aid, referrals and confidential data storage (both hard and soft/electronic copies). The Child Protection Officer will ensure compliance with the DRC Information Sharing Protocol at all times.
PROGRAMME PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION
Provide technical support for all Child Protection activities including but not limited to identification, data collection, child situation analysis, confidential data storage and reporting (including presentation in Child Protection Area of Responsibility and other appropriate forums);
Assist in setting up and capacity strengthening of Community Based Child Protection/Youth Networks, and ensure Child Protection knowledge is increased in target communities;
Supervise collection of data on Child Protection and assist in summarizing findings to provide analysis on child protection situation monitoring, which will inform planning, programme design as well as implementation;
Identify Child Protection training needs of DRC partners and develop practical capacity building plan and conduct timely trainings and refresher workshops;
Support the development and implementation of relevant Child Protection documents including strategy, SOPs, Briefing papers, etc;
Promote mainstreaming of Child Protection into DRC activities at the field level including with DRC partners;
Ensure access to appropriate assistance (including Individual Protection Assistance-IPAs, Psychosocial Support-PSS, referrals, Psychological First Aid, follow up) among vulnerable children identified through protection monitoring in DRC operational areas in Southwest Cameroon;
Ensure establishment and strengthening of Child Protection Monitoring and Evaluation and Information-Sharing systems;
Support the Child Protection Manager in coordination with implementing, operational and other partners on work related to child protection;
Conduct regular visits and provide technical support to the Child Protection staff and community-based child protection networks in their activities;
Contribute to preparation of analytical/narrative reports (including weekly, monthly and end of project) throughout the program management cycle;
Perform any other relevant tasks as requested by the Line Manager and/or Child Protection Manager/Coordinator.
REPORTING
Ensure Child Protection staffs submit forms from all key informant interviews and direct observations to be sent to the Child Protection Manager.
Coordinate with the Child Protection Manager on the production of regular Child Protection reports including weekly SITREP and monthly reports to ensure sufficient information is available for Child Protection Analysis.
Maintain an individual database for psychosocial support, ensuring that all individuals receive timely follow up
COORDINATION * Coordinate with other units/departments to ensure smooth implementation of the child protection project during the project management cycle.
Draft presentations on Child Protection situations and send to the Child Protection Manager for review/amendment and clearance before presenting it in the CP AoR forum.
Coordinate preparation of the child protection team's monthly work plan.
When needed, liaise with the Child Protection Manager to ensure that staff members have flagged individual cases and that the manager is aware of the situation.
Develop and maintain referral pathways with key partners providing specialized child protection support such as access to documentation and health services
HR * Ensure adequate support and capacity building is provided to Protection Assistants for delivery of high quality child protection activities.
