Partner and Emerging Market is a new business unit within Diageo Africa. It is focused on driving significant business growth and transformation outside our established in market companies. It covers 23 countries (across West and Central Africa) with a total population of over 230M and where our current business includes partnerships with local beer producers (predominantly BGI) and International Premium spirits agents/distributors.
This is a highly entrepreneurial business unit, operating across a broad and diverse set of geographies. The environment dynamic and the agenda is exciting and ambitious with a number of strategic choices to be made from portfolio, to production, route to market and partnerships.
This is a senior management role which will be the finance business partner for the FGM of the unit, with a strong bias towards commercial and business development.
Purpose of the role
To deliver Diageo's growth ambitions across Emerging and Developing Markets, establishing new businesses and transforming existing business.
Financial support and stewardship of a highly complex, volatile and evolving business unit.
Market Complexity
Partner and Emerging Market covers 23 diverse countries where Diageo has limited if any presence on the ground. Developing new RTMs and portfolios will require a different approach, leadership and capability set to the other business units of Africa. The countries' economies vary significantly and present different levels of opportunity for business growth. There is a high level of volatility across the countries. These factors create complexity in driving the agenda.
Whilst being profit responsible for the existing business of each fiscal year - the strategic measure of performance of this business unit will be the achievement of breakthrough growth through new business development.
The Finance Director will need to be well networked in the group and be able to leverage support from group functions - especially Tax, Treasury, BD, Legal and where necessary, external consultants. The FD will also work with and manage output from some outsourced back office functions in sister organizations like GCSA in Douala and ABSC in Nairobi and Budapest
Top Accountabilities
Deliver excellent Decision Support to a breakthrough business agenda.
Financial support and leadership to a portfolio of developmental initiatives including manufacturing
Performance leadership - developing and adapting BPM to best suit the business unit needs
Be a champion of the creation of a strong Controls, Compliance and Ethics agenda and CARM framework of controls both within Finance and the wider business unit.
